Success-A word everyone wants to taste; though literally you can't taste it with you tongue. Success in this competitive world has been the most challenging and compromised term. The word is a merely of any meaning if you don't have any of these signs like $ or Rs. The word success has been equated to the monetary gain. The word success meant a lot before the opening of world economy and pre-globalisation era. I raise a question about, is it right to equate success with all monetary gain and not with the appreciation of the efforts of achieving it??
Be it anyone in this modern society, no one can deny of the stress related to work, goals, ambitions.. earlier life was a journey now it is an olympic 1500m race..! I often hear my parents, grandparents going back into their childhood memories where they mention, we never had such a stressful life!! They enjoyed in the way where they could make the best out of whatever was with them. Today being my grandma's 83rd birthday I remember one instance where she told me about her childhood, that she was a sharp girl, she was interested in music, beadwork, embriodery and other household craft, though she could not do it professionally in her life but she enjoyed doing it all through out her life and even today at 83 she enjoys every bit of it by doing small things for her friends and for me too.. must say she has an excellent sense of design, colour and patterns.. but alas no one except few close ones know about her art. This implies and makes me to think that skills a person possess can make him successful and no the monetary benefit that the person earns out of it.
The skills that bring out the best of you, the skills that give you sigh of pleasure, the skills that makes you more innovative and a vivid learner is the real success in life. One more excerpt I read of Our contemporary writer Chetan bhagat let me share it with you guys:
"Don’t just have career or academic goals. Set goals to give you a balanced, successful life. I use the word balanced before successful. Balanced means ensuring your health, relationships, mental peace are all in good order. There is no point of getting a promotion on the day of your breakup. There is no fun in driving a car if your back hurts. Shopping is not enjoyable if your mind is full of tensions.
Life is one of those races in nursery school where you have to run with a marble in a spoon kept in your mouth. If the marble falls, there is no point coming first. Same is with life where health and relationships are the marble. Your striving is only worth it if there is harmony in your life. Else, you may achieve the success, but this spark, this feeling of being excited and alive, will start to die.
One thing about nurturing the spark - don’t take life seriously. Life is not meant to be taken seriously, as we are really temporary here. We are like a pre-paid card with limited validity. If we are lucky, we may last another 50 years. And 50 years is just 2,500 weekends. Do we really need to get so worked up?
It’s ok, bunk a few classes, scoring low in couple of papers, goof up a few interviews, take leave from work, Enjoy with your friends, fall in love, little fights with your loved Ones . We are people, not programmed devices"-- Chetan Bhagat
I see that many of us need to understand that life is not measured with the heights of mountains of success you climb but it is measured in the depth of valleys of hearts you touch!:)
